Your Local Gate & Fence Specialist in Camarillo

Camarillo

Camarillo sits in Ventura County at the eastern edge of the Oxnard Plain, where the valley opens toward the coast. That location shapes what we build here. On the coast-facing side of town we usually steer homeowners toward powder-coated aluminum — that is our own judgement from years of work out this way rather than a published figure, but a coated aluminum gate gives you less to look after on an exposed entrance. The coating is the part doing the work, and the finish warranty is typically 10 years, though it can vary depending on the product and coating line selected for your project. The housing stock is mixed too: Spanish and Mediterranean styles that suit ornamental iron, ranch-style homes in Camarillo Heights and Mission Oaks that suit horizontal-slat aluminum or ranch rail, and newer tract neighborhoods where the HOA palette decides the color.

Toward Santa Rosa Valley and Somis the lots get larger and many are ranch or equestrian properties — both use Camarillo mailing addresses but sit outside the city limits, in unincorporated Ventura County. That changes the brief again: longer driveways, wider openings, ranch-rail fencing, and operators sized for a gate that has to travel a long way, sometimes on solar where there is no convenient power at the drive. Every project is engineered for the specific site rather than pulled from a catalog.

Services We Offer in Camarillo

What We Do

From custom fabrication to Camarillo permit compliance, we deliver gate and fencing solutions engineered for local terrain and architecture.

Permits and Approvals in Camarillo

Local Expertise
Camarillo projects go through one of two front doors. Addresses inside the city limits are reviewed by the City of Camarillo. Addresses in the unincorporated areas that share a Camarillo mailing address — Santa Rosa Valley in 93012 and Somis in 93066 among them — are reviewed by Ventura County. The rules are not identical, and many neighborhoods add an HOA or architectural committee review on top of whichever one applies.

Jurisdiction

Camarillo requires a building permit for a fence over 6 feet, not the 7 feet used in much of California. Height limits are 6 feet in side and rear yards, 3 feet in the front yard, and 3 feet inside the corner cutback for visibility — with up to 8 feet possible along an arterial with city approval.

Gate Permit Application

A typical package includes a site plan and elevation drawings showing gate height and design, and — for automated gates — documentation of the operator and its safety devices. We prepare the drawings and handle the submittal.

HOA Architectural Review

We work throughout Camarillo — Camarillo Heights, Camarillo Springs, Las Posas Estates, Spanish Hills, Sterling Hills, Village at the Park and Mission Oaks — as well as Santa Rosa Valley and Somis. Many of these neighborhoods have homeowners associations or architectural committees with their own rules on gate height, style, color and setback, so HOA approval may be necessary before work starts. We prepare the submittal — finished drawings, material and color specs, and renderings where they are required — and coordinate approval before anything is fabricated, so the design you approve is the design that gets built.

Automated Gate Safety

Any gate can be built ready for a motor, or fully automated. Electric gates need a Knox key switch; the gate must have battery backup or open manually if power is lost (D111.8.2); a driveway gate needs at least 15 feet of clear width (D111.8.4); and in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone it must sit at least 30 feet back from the intersecting road (D111.8.5). We design those requirements in from the start so the inspection passes without rework.

City Limits or County?

A Camarillo mailing address does not always mean a City of Camarillo permit. Santa Rosa Valley (93012) and Somis (93066) are unincorporated, so they are reviewed by Ventura County Resource Management Agency Planning under the county code instead — where a vehicle access gate must be at least 15 feet wide and set back at least 20 feet from the front or street-side property line. We check which side of the line a property sits on before we draw anything, because the submittal and the dimensions are not the same.

Neighborhoods We Serve in Camarillo

Service Area
Camarillo covers a lot of ground — hillside streets, walled tracts and ranch parcels that all share a Camarillo address, from Camarillo Heights and Sterling Hills to Mission Oaks and the Santa Rosa Valley. Each one has its own character and constraints.

Camarillo Heights

Hillside streets above the valley floor with larger lots, long private driveways and open frontages. We have installed espresso aluminum ranch-rail fencing between stacked-stone pillars and horizontal-slat slide gates on these streets — the wide frontages here suit a ranch-rail run with a slide or bi-parting gate at the drive.

Las Posas Estates

Larger estate parcels on the north side of town, where a longer approach usually means a slide gate or a bi-parting swing pair with the operator sized for the run.

Spanish Hills

A hillside golf-course neighborhood of larger custom homes, many in Spanish and Mediterranean styles that pair well with ornamental iron and with gates built to suit the pilasters rather than fight them.

Camarillo Springs

A community at the foot of the Conejo Grade on the eastern edge of the city. Parts of this side of Camarillo sit in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone adopted by Ventura County Fire Protection District Ordinance 33, effective 1 July 2025 — which is why a gate across fire access here has to sit at least 30 feet back from the intersecting road.

Village at the Park

A newer master-planned neighborhood on the south side of Camarillo with tighter lots and a consistent architectural palette, so color and material matching matter more here than raw size.

Mission Oaks

A large residential area in south Camarillo, mostly single-family homes on standard suburban lots. Typical work here is side and pedestrian gates, wall toppers and privacy fencing rather than estate entrances.

I feel so lucky to have found Chris of Westlake Dream Gates! Am very picky about who I hire to work on my farm. He was kind, lovely to work with, professional and trustworthy in every way. When you find someone with this kind of ethic, and such high quality outcomes, keep their contact info in your "favorites" file. I've worked with Chris and his crew on two different projects now and will continue to do so in the future!

Dealt directly with owner Chris. He is very responsive and professional. Prices are very competitive. The finished product looks and functions great and is so much nicer and more solid than the vinyl gate we replaced. Very high quality gate and hardware. So much more secure than most gates. I feel like I have a side door more than a side gate. I have already recommended Chris and Westlake Dream Gates and will use them again.

Westlake Dream Gates installed fencing panels on our steep backyard hillside. It was truly a pleasure to work with Chris! He is honest, dependable, and very attentive. The materials used are high quality. He and his crew showed up everyday and cleaned up after. You can tell that his crew enjoys working with him. An overall great experience. Highly recommend.

It’s been a month since Westlake Dream Gates created and installed our custom gates (main gate and a second dog gate) and we are still incredibly happy with the decision to work with WDG for this project. We wanted to go with something sleek, modern, sturdy, eco-friendly, and different from the typical vinyl product in order to update the well-worn wood gates we had before, and WDG delivered on all of those fronts and then some. Because everything is cut-to-fit on-site, Chris and his team worked with us during the installation process to ensure we got the gate designs we wanted along with managing the specific constraints that the walkway presented for this project. They were able to accommodate last-minute design needs without compromising the end result. And the end result has been great! Our family and neighbors have been giving us compliments about it ever since the install! The soft-close feature on both gates has been fantastic in that the gates don’t slam shut, reducing the noise that slamming typically makes while preserving the lifespan of the gates—something the old gates could have really benefitted from. Both gates were also equipped with kick down door stoppers, which makes it a breeze for the pool guy to get his equipment into the backyard without banging the gates in the process. We highly recommend WDG, Chris, and his team and will definitely be in touch when we decide to update the remainder of our property’s fencing.

Wrought iron runs higher per square foot because of material and fabrication time. Yes. Camarillo requires a building permit for a fence over 6 feet, lower than the 7-foot threshold used in much of California, and we handle the permit for you. We also prepare HOA-ready submission packages and coordinate with the architectural committee on revisions, so you do not have to.
It depends on the project:
  • Pedestrian gates — 1 to 2 days
  • Automating an existing driveway gate — 2 to 3 days
  • New driveway gates — 3 to 6 days
  • Fencing — typically 3 to 6 days, depending on the run length
Larger projects with extensive concrete or electrical work can take longer. We give you a clear schedule with your estimate.
