Your Local Gate & Fence Specialist in Thousand Oaks

Thousand Oaks

Thousand Oaks spans a wide valley floor ringed by rock-outcrop hillsides and canyon terrain, from master-planned gated communities like Dos Vientos and Lang Ranch to custom hillside estates in neighborhoods like Lynn Ranch and North Ranch. We design, build, and install the aluminum driveway gates, automation systems, intercoms, ornamental ironwork, and pergolas that frame those entrances.

Every project is engineered for the specific conditions of the site, not pulled from a catalog. That means a different gate specification for a hillside lot than for a flat valley lot, and a different automation package for a long driveway than for a short one.

Services We Offer in Thousand Oaks

What We Do

From custom fabrication to Thousand Oaks permit compliance, we deliver gate and fencing solutions engineered for local terrain and architecture.

Permits and Approvals in Thousand Oaks

Local Expertise
Gate and fence projects here move through two layers of review — the City of Thousand Oaks’ building and zoning process, and (in most HOA neighborhoods) the architectural committee.

Jurisdiction

The City of Thousand Oaks handles gate and fence permits through its Community Development Department (Building Division), including online submission through the city’s TO/24 portal. The city sits entirely within Ventura County, so there’s no dual-jurisdiction split like some neighboring communities — every property within city limits goes through the same building and safety review.

Gate Permit Application

A typical package includes a site plan and elevation drawings showing gate height and design, and — for automated gates — documentation of the operator and safety devices.

HOA Architectural Review

Many Thousand Oaks neighborhoods — including Dos Vientos, Lynn Ranch, Lang Ranch, and North Ranch — have an active HOA with an Architectural Control Committee (ACC) that reviews gate and fence designs before construction. We prepare HOA-ready submission packages and coordinate directly with the committee on revisions.

Automated Gate Safety

Automated gates in Thousand Oaks fall under Ventura County Fire Protection District (VCFPD) access requirements — most gated properties need a Knox Rapid Entry System component so fire crews can get in during an emergency; the Knox device itself doesn’t require a permit, but the gate structure does need zoning/building approval. We also build in the photoelectric sensors, edge sensors, and other safety provisions required for automated vehicular gates, so the permit passes inspection without rework.

Neighborhoods We Serve in Thousand Oaks

Service Area
Each neighborhood has its own character and constraints.

Dos Vientos

A master-planned community of roughly 2,350 homes approved in 1988, on the western edge of Newbury Park at the foot of the Santa Monica Mountains. Gate and fence designs typically follow the Dos Vientos Ranch Community Association’s modern Mediterranean guidelines.

Lynn Ranch

Large, horse-friendly lots with homes dating from the late 1950s through the 70s, many since renovated. The Lynn Ranch Homeowners Association reviews exterior changes, including gates and fencing, through its architectural committee.

Lang Ranch

A cluster of neighborhoods with newer construction from the late 1980s through the early 2000s, including several gated communities.

Wildwood

Named for the adjacent Wildwood Regional Park and its Paradise Falls trail, this neighborhood draws buyers who want trail access as much as a specific architectural style.

Newbury Park

Annexed into the City of Thousand Oaks in 1964, Newbury Park covers a wide range of architectural styles and lot sizes, from mid-century tract homes to newer hillside construction.

I feel so lucky to have found Chris of Westlake Dream Gates! Am very picky about who I hire to work on my farm. He was kind, lovely to work with, professional and trustworthy in every way. When you find someone with this kind of ethic, and such high quality outcomes, keep their contact info in your "favorites" file. I've worked with Chris and his crew on two different projects now and will continue to do so in the future!

Dealt directly with owner Chris. He is very responsive and professional. Prices are very competitive. The finished product looks and functions great and is so much nicer and more solid than the vinyl gate we replaced. Very high quality gate and hardware. So much more secure than most gates. I feel like I have a side door more than a side gate. I have already recommended Chris and Westlake Dream Gates and will use them again.

Westlake Dream Gates installed fencing panels on our steep backyard hillside. It was truly a pleasure to work with Chris! He is honest, dependable, and very attentive. The materials used are high quality. He and his crew showed up everyday and cleaned up after. You can tell that his crew enjoys working with him. An overall great experience. Highly recommend.

It’s been a month since Westlake Dream Gates created and installed our custom gates (main gate and a second dog gate) and we are still incredibly happy with the decision to work with WDG for this project. We wanted to go with something sleek, modern, sturdy, eco-friendly, and different from the typical vinyl product in order to update the well-worn wood gates we had before, and WDG delivered on all of those fronts and then some. Because everything is cut-to-fit on-site, Chris and his team worked with us during the installation process to ensure we got the gate designs we wanted along with managing the specific constraints that the walkway presented for this project. They were able to accommodate last-minute design needs without compromising the end result. And the end result has been great! Our family and neighbors have been giving us compliments about it ever since the install! The soft-close feature on both gates has been fantastic in that the gates don’t slam shut, reducing the noise that slamming typically makes while preserving the lifespan of the gates—something the old gates could have really benefitted from. Both gates were also equipped with kick down door stoppers, which makes it a breeze for the pool guy to get his equipment into the backyard without banging the gates in the process. We highly recommend WDG, Chris, and his team and will definitely be in touch when we decide to update the remainder of our property’s fencing.

Yes. We manage the permitting process with the City of Thousand Oaks Community Development Department, and we prepare HOA-ready submission packages — finished drawings, material and color specs, and renderings where required — for architectural committee review in neighborhoods like Dos Vientos, Lynn Ranch, and Lang Ranch. We coordinate directly with the committee on revisions so you don’t have to.
It depends on the project:
  • Pedestrian gates — 1 to 2 days
  • Automating an existing driveway gate — 2 to 3 days
  • New driveway gates — 3 to 6 days
